JonesBetting | A Tough Start, But the Marathon Has Only Begun

The new football season is finally here, and with it came the first full month of betting action. Unfortunately, July didn't provide the start we were hoping for.

Several selections fell on the wrong side of fine margins, and despite countless hours of research and preparation, the results simply didn't reflect the quality of the analysis. That's frustrating—for me just as much as for everyone following the picks—but it's also an unavoidable part of long-term sports betting.

A Month of Fine Margins

July reminded us just how cruel football betting can be.

There were games where just one goal would have changed everything. Higher-confidence selections didn't land, while some matches unfolded in ways that statistics and pre-match analysis simply couldn't predict. A few missed chances, late goals, defensive mistakes or moments of bad luck were enough to turn value bets into losing tickets.

That is the reality of betting.

Every experienced bettor knows that variance doesn't disappear just because the analysis is solid. Sometimes a week—or even an entire month—can go against you despite consistently finding value.

Trusting the Process

It's easy to lose confidence after a poor run of results, but successful betting has never been about short-term outcomes.

Every pick published on Jones Betting follows the same philosophy:

  • careful match research,
  • statistical analysis,
  • value-focused selections,
  • disciplined bankroll management.

That process doesn't change because of one disappointing month.

If you've been betting long enough, you've probably experienced both winning streaks and losing streaks. Neither defines a bettor's long-term ability. What matters is making consistently good decisions over hundreds—not dozens—of bets.

Betting Is a Marathon, Not a Sprint

One of the biggest mistakes bettors make is judging a strategy after just a handful of results.

Football is a high-variance sport. Even bets with genuine value lose regularly, and that's completely normal. A profitable bettor isn't someone who wins every weekend—it's someone who continues making positive expected value decisions over the long run.

That's why bankroll management remains one of the most important parts of this project. Staking discipline exists precisely because losing periods are inevitable.

The goal has never been to chase quick profits or promise unrealistic win rates.

The goal is sustainable, long-term profitability.

Looking Ahead to August

While July wasn't the start anyone wanted, it represents only the very beginning of another long football season.

More leagues are returning, more opportunities are opening up, and with a larger sample size comes a better reflection of the underlying performance. The focus remains exactly the same: identify value, stay disciplined and trust the process.

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow the picks, support the project and understand the long-term nature of sports betting.

July may have gone against us, but the season is only getting started.

The marathon continues.
